How N.E.S.T Supports Children With Down Syndrome
Children with Down syndrome usually benefit most from a combination of therapies rather than any single one. At N.E.S.T, that typically means special education for individualized academic and life-skills learning in a small classroom, speech therapy for communication and language development, and occupational or physical therapy for motor development, muscle tone and coordination. Because all three happen at the same center, our team coordinates goals across therapies instead of leaving families to manage separate providers.
What Happens at the First Assessment
An assessment is offered as part of enrollment. Our team spends time observing your child's communication, motor skills and learning style, then gives honest guidance on which combination of special education, speech and occupational therapy would help most, along with a suggested weekly plan. There is no pressure to commit to every therapy at once; many families begin with one or two and add more as they see how their child responds.

Raising a child with Down syndrome brings its own questions and emotions, and families deserve support too, not just their child. Our parent counseling and family support program offers 1-on-1 counseling, group support sessions and home program guidance, so the strategies used at N.E.S.T can be extended into everyday life at home, and parents feel less alone in the process.

N.E.S.T welcomes children and young people from ages 2 to 20, so support continues well beyond early intervention. Toddlers can begin building early communication and motor foundations, while older students continue developing academic, communication and independence skills through our classroom and therapy programs.
