What Is Speech Therapy?

Speech and language therapy helps children who struggle to speak clearly, understand language, or communicate their wants and needs. As a trusted provider of speech therapy in Islamabad, N.E.S.T pairs each child with a certified speech-language pathologist who builds both expressive language (getting ideas out) and receptive language (understanding others). Using evidence-based techniques such as PECS, AAC and structured language programs, we create a personalized plan and deliver it in a warm, play-based environment where children feel safe to try, practice and succeed.

Signs Your Child May Need Speech Therapy

Every child develops at their own pace, but some signs are worth acting on early. Families in Islamabad often reach out to N.E.S.T when a child has limited or delayed speech, is hard to understand, does not follow simple instructions, rarely uses gestures or words to communicate, becomes frustrated when trying to express needs, or has lost words they once used. Speech therapy also supports children with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome and developmental delays who need help with social communication. An assessment tells us exactly where your child needs support.

Our Approach & What a Session Looks Like

After the assessment, your child's speech-language pathologist writes an individualized plan and chooses the right tools, whether that is articulation practice, spoken-language building, or PECS and AAC for children who are not yet talking. A typical session lasts 45-60 minutes and feels like guided play, keeping children motivated and engaged. Parents are coached to carry techniques into daily routines, because consistency at home speeds progress, and we share regular updates. Where helpful, speech therapy is combined with ABA or occupational therapy in one coordinated plan.

FAQs

Speech Therapy FAQs

Answers to common questions from Islamabad families about speech therapy at N.E.S.T.

What is speech therapy?
Speech and language therapy helps children who have difficulty speaking clearly, understanding language, or communicating their needs. At N.E.S.T in Islamabad, certified speech-language pathologists build both expressive and receptive language skills using evidence-based, play-based methods tailored to each child.
What are the signs my child may need speech therapy?
Common signs include limited or delayed speech, difficulty being understood, trouble following instructions, not using gestures or words to communicate, frustration when trying to express needs, or a regression in language. An assessment at N.E.S.T can confirm whether speech therapy will help.
What is PECS and AAC?
PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) are tools that help children who are not yet speaking to communicate using pictures, symbols or devices. Our speech-language pathologists use them alongside spoken-language work to give every child a way to be understood.
How early can speech therapy start?
Early intervention is powerful. N.E.S.T works with children from age 2, and starting early often leads to faster, stronger gains. We also support older children and teens up to age 20 who need continued language support.
What happens in a speech therapy session?
Sessions usually last 45-60 minutes and feel like guided play. The speech-language pathologist works on the goals in your child's plan, such as sounds, words, sentences or social communication, and coaches parents so progress continues at home. We share regular progress updates.
